Elders & StaffThe Bible describes the early church with a plural leadership vested in qualified men called elders, overseers or pastors. For example, Paul “appointed elders in every church” ( Acts 14:23 ); he addressed the “elders of the church” at Ephesus ( Acts 20:17 ) and James encourages the sick to “call for the elders of the church” ( James 5:14 ). Not only is plural elder leadership biblical by example, but it is very practical in application. It helps create team support, accountability, diversity of gifting, and combined wisdom when making difficult decisions. Since Trinity Fellowship is governed by a group of elders, we don’t have congregational “business” meetings or formal church membership. However, commitment and consistent participation in a local church is biblical and necessary to achieve God’s purposes. This commitment is expressed by responding to the God-given authority and shepherding of the elders, and service to and with other believers, especially through an active participation in the fellowship groups. |
