Thyatira: False Teaching

With Jesus describing Himself as “the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze” (Rev 2:18), we had to talk about Jesus as our Judge. That’s the Beama seat judgment as distinguished from the Great White Throne. As an example of false teaching, we discussed Rob Bell’s ‘suggestion’ that Hell might not exist.

Introducing the 7 Churches

Revelation 2 and 3: Seven letters to the Seven churches. They’re literal churches but they’re also representative churches and convey a message for us which is unique among all Scripture. And I didn’t even get to talk about one of my favorite subjects – how the seven churches give us a prophetic outline of Church history!

When the time had fully come: Waiting for the consolation of Israel

This sermon covered the time period just preceding the coming of Christ. What were the people expecting? I spoke of their expectation of a conquering King and how God ‘surprised’ them with the suffering servant. The practical challenge was how do we respond when God frustrates our expectations? There was a lot I didn’t cover, all that prophetic imagery… Just leave a comment if you want to follow up on anything.
